Family Therapy for Reunification
Supporting Parent-Child Connection After Separation
At ACT Out Therapy, we understand that families can face incredibly complex challenges that may lead to a parent and a child not spending regular time together. We also understand that breaks and pauses in contact can impact the attachment and relationship between the parent and child, which can have ongoing effects on their relationship.
Whether the pause in contact is due to family conflict, out-of-home care, domestic and family violence, mental health concerns, or other difficult circumstances, these separations can be deeply distressing for the family system as a whole. Our Family Therapy for Reunification offers a safe, supportive, trauma informed approach and structured space to begin the process of rebuilding trust, connection, and communication between parents and children who have been apart.
What is Reunification Therapy?
Reunification therapy is a specialised form of family therapy designed to support the gradual and supported reintroduction of a parent into a child’s life.
It focuses on helping both parties navigate the emotional, psychological, and relational impacts of the separation while prioritising the child’s emotional safety and wellbeing. ACT Out Therapy always prioritises safety within family therapy sessions and will always used a trauma informed approach to ensure that all family members feel as safe as they can throughout the process.
ACT Out Therapy also acknowledges that family reunification therapy can be challenging and emotional at times which may lead to family members requesting to take breaks or engage in regular individual therapy or consultation sessions to help everyone feel as safe as they can.
Please note, each individual referral received requesting Family Therapy for Reunification will need to undergo assessment to determine our service’s suitability.
