ACT Out Therapy uses evidence-based psychological research and strategies along with evidence-based creative techniques to create a safe and welcoming space for clients to express their thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a way that works for them individually. ACT Out follows a client-centred approach where clients will be able to explore differing therapeutic approaches, such as talk therapy, creative play, and creative outlets, supporting clients to acknowledge, express, and process any thoughts or feelings they may be struggling with. 

We have a strong passion for providing inclusive and accessible services, and will adapt treatment plans, support options, and service delivery depending on an individual's independent needs, wants, and abilities.

Ages and Abilities

ACT Out works with individuals of all ages and abilities. Our therapists will work appropriately and respectfully with all clients and will adapt sessions and treatment plans focusing on the individual's abilities and needs as required. 

For clients under the age of four years old, in addition to clients of any age who have not developed communication skills that allow them to express any immediate concerns and needs, a parent, guardian or carer will be required to attend sessions with the client until they feel comfortable and able to communicate their needs or concerns with the therapist. A client's individual communication strategies or abilites can be discussed prior to appointments to ensure the therapist is informed and has any additional aids as needed. 

Parents, guardians, carers and support people are welcome in the therapy room either if the individual recieving support is under age or if the individual would benefit from additional support. 

Confidentiality

Under the Australian Counselling Code of Ethics and ACT Out Therapy's Safe Workplace Policy, all therapists are required to report all concerns of harm towards self or others, including concerns of neglect towards children, to the relevant services located within the vulnerable person's state of residence. Where possible, ACT Out team member will discuss any concerns with the individuals involved, however if there are any immediate or severe concerns of safety or harm towards self or others, including concerns of neglect towards dependants, ACT Out staff may deem it necessary to report concerns to the relevant services before contacting any individuals involved. 

Staff Requirements 

All employees of ACT Out will be trained with the appropriate qualifications, have first-aid training, and have Police Clearance and a valid NDIS worker's clearance throughout employment. All employees will be registered and certified under the governing authorities including but not limited to the Australian Counselling Association, and will work within the relevant Code of Ethics for their governing body. In addition, ACT Out staff will be required to follow other legal workplace policies such as the Anti-Discrimination Act, Human Rights Act and Child Protection Acts. 

Complaints

ACT Out works under a safe and ethical framework and takes all concerns and complaints seriously. Complaints and feedback can be given in-person, online, or over the phone and can be submitted anonymously. ACT Out treat all complaints and feedback seriously, and will assess and investigate each submission as received. ACT Out will aim to work towards a resolution that will support any individuals involved or affected as quickly and safely as possible.
